
Illinois TRS Deploys $1.7B Across 14 Funds
Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois disclosed 14 new fund commitments totaling approximately $1.7B across its private equity, public equity, real assets, and income portfolios, six of which represented new manager relationships for the $84.7B system. Commitments spanned private equity managers including Francisco Partners, OceanSound Partners, and Investindustrial, $400M each to Connor, Clark & Lunn and Northern Trust Global Equity under public equity, infrastructure and real estate allocations to KKR and Kayne Anderson, and a $250M income commitment to SLR 1818.
In other LP news, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Kentucky disclosed $260M in new commitments, directed to Lexington Partners for a secondary fund, Blackstone for a real estate secondaries vehicle, and PGIM for private credit. The investment committee also renewed its consulting contract with Aon for FY 2027. Elsewhere, Battle Creek Police & Fire Pension System approved a rebalancing reducing equity exposure back within its 70% statutory target, redeploying proceeds into cash and fixed income with consultant CAPTRUST noting a tentative November transition of plan assets from Comerica to Fifth Third.
On a recent Dakota Live! podcast, Stephen Chase, associate director of investments at Drexel University's investment office, outlined the priorities of the $1.25B endowment. Chase identified real assets as the team's most active research area and described the office's liquidity management discipline and emphasis on 10-to-20-year conviction horizons when evaluating private markets managers.
On the GP fundraising side, HSBC Asset Management is reportedly targeting up to $2B for its NAV Financing Partnership Strategy following a $1B anchor close, with the fund remaining open through 2026 and into 2027; Affinius Capital has raised approximately $905M toward a $1B target for its inaugural hyperscale data center fund, Digital Economy Real Estate Partners Data Center Fund I; and Singapore-based climate venture builder 100x100 launched its second fund targeting $100M to co-found startups across Southeast Asia and India, building on a 2023 inaugural $60M close.
